Role: Business Development Manager

The Business Development (BD) Manager role supports initiatives across Ardonagh Specialty as part of the wider Business Development function. The role develops initiatives designed to either increase new business conversions and/or to improve client retention rates. The role also has additional responsibility to drive a sales culture; setting out and implementing best practice for planning, analysis, prioritisation, qualification, prospecting and pitching.

Sales / Business Development / Organic Growth: 

  • Support the BD Director and Global Commercial Director with projects that will generate pipelines of new business opportunities.
  • Using your London Specialty insurance market experience, develop projects that support and enable trading teams to cross-sell, as well as building the business’ awareness on opportunities to collaborate/cross-sell.
  • Application of best practice for prospect selection and qualification, management of pipelines, and pitching.
  • Manage projects to benchmark and improve client retention rates; examining trading practices and overlaying client feedback to drive plans to improve our offering.
  • Support the onboarding of newly acquired assets; building awareness of Specialty’s product and service offering.

Operational Excellence: 

  • Support the development of efficient and value-added processes, using appropriate company systems, to support growth strategies.
  • Support the development of workflow management processes for optimal management of team projects, and stakeholder updates to Ardonagh Specialty.
  • Where possible, use of progressive AI technologies to optimise team efficiency and output.

Team Collaboration: 

  • Work closely with BD Director, Global Commercial Director, Chief Strategy Officer and wider BD Function.
  • Working as part of a team environment to ensure all broking/trading stakeholder needs are met.
  • Working as a team to ensure the BD function is on track to meet monthly and yearly targets.

Requirements: 

  • Candidates must have at least three years of experience in a similar role within the London insurance market; broking, underwriting, MGA experience is acceptable.
  • Candidate must demonstrate the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong communication and attention to detail skills are essential.
  • Possess a positive, ‘can-do’ attitude with the ability to adapt to and embrace change.
  • Possess the ability to manage multiple deadlines & prioritise workload.
  • The ability to prioritise workloads and adapt to unforeseen events.
  • A good degree of personal organisation and a structured approach to time and resource management is essential.

Person Specification: 

  • Proficient in Office, including Outlook, Word & Excel.
  • Friendly and assertive manner on the phone/Teams/face-to-face
  • Ability to develop relationships with team and wider business stakeholders at all levels.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
